As a registered nurse I have worked in operating theatres as a Clinical Nurse Specialist
(C.N.S.), a Nurse Unit Manager (N.U.M.), and a Clinical Nurse Educator (C.N.E.).
I started Lifestyle Support on the principle of “patient-focused best and safe practice”, with the aim of working to realise this in clinical practice and helping others to do the same. It became clear that this required a willingness to:
- See things as they are;
- Determine how needs could be more efficiently met;
- Communicate the vision for improvement;
- Collaborate with everyone involved to refine the vision;
- Continuously review the implementation;
- Commit to a satisfactory resolution for everyone involved.
I have always enjoyed helping and supporting others going through transformative change. Following through with these six steps helps people to make the changes they want. I have helped people to:
- Stay at home rather than move to aged-care facilities;
- Manage their time to accommodate their lifestyle;
- Find space for themselves in their own home or work area.
